Our Story

Guzi’s Hunt for the Cure Foundation was founded in 2022 by Carley and Nate Renner

“Going through family planning when faced with the reality or possibility of HD can feel very isolating, we want people to know they have options and are definitely not alone.”

— Carley & Nate Renner, Founders

Nate and Carley Renner found out Carley’s father, Chris Guzikowski, was diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease in 2020. They were ready to start their family planning, however this disease changed everything. Carley now had a 50/50 chance of inheriting this genetic disease. They learned PGT-IVF was a way to eradicate Huntington’s Disease for their future children. Although this option gave them hope, Nate and Carely were having a hard time as they were not ready to take on the financial burden of going through IVF. But then a miracle happened…

Nate and Carley found out they were recipients of a grant from the foundation HelpCureHD. The purpose of this grant is to fund one IVF cycle, which includes genetic testing of the embryos to ensure they have an HD free baby. They were so honored to be recipients.

While they were waiting to find out if they received the grant, they felt strongly that more couples and families who are going through similar situations need these resources and options for family planning. IVF is very expensive and is often times not covered under insurance. With the help of some amazing people (Our Team), they have started Guzi’s Hunt for the Cure Foundation. Going through family planning when face with the potential of HD can feel very isolating, and they want people to know they have options and are definitely not alone. They are so proud to be working toward eradicating HD and paying it forward from the generosity they received!
